Photography began in 1839, and women were early adopters, successful entrepreneurs who mastered the cutting-edge technology to run thriving businesses. However, these women and their accomplishments have long been overlooked by the history books. Since November 2015 I have been traveling around North America gathering information about these early women photographers. My project Photographs, Pistols, and Parasols tells their stories — sometimes amusing, sometimes poignant, always inspirational.
